Environment
    Hazardous Substances

Electrical and electronic equipment waste generated globally is growing rapidly.
To date, over 90% of that waste is landfilled or incinerated. In 1998 alone, the
European Union (EU) generated over 915,000 tons of electronic waste, equivalent
to about 400,000 automobiles. Hazardous substances in this waste contaminate water,
soil and air and ultimately put at risk our environment and health.

Two European Directives address this waste and pollution by considering the life
cycle of products from initial design through recovery and recycling.

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) addresses the design phase
of products and aims to restrict the use of substances posing risks to the environment
and human health. The Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE)
addresses the end of life (EOL) phase of products and contributes to the reduction
of wasteful consumption of natural resources through effective recycling of electrical
    waste.

Together, these laws reduce pollution, protect the environment and ourselves.

All Cybex products, both strength and cardiovascular, are designed to meet the requirements
of the RoHS directive. Cybex complies with the WEEE directive recycling standards
as a result of its registration with ValPak. ValPak is a WEEE recognized third party
compliance scheme in the United Kingdom.
